What is the Canada Greener Homes Loan?
The Canada Greener Homes Loan is a 10-year, interest-free loan of up to $40,000 to help Canadians make their homes more energy efficient and comfortable. Homeowners can use the loan to pay for eligible retrofits such as heat pumps, insulation, air sealing, new windows, solar power, and more.
How to apply for the Canada Greener Homes Loan?
An energy advisor is required to access this loan, so start by booking a pre-retrofit evaluation with an energy advisor. Information from that evaluation is required for the Canada Greener Homes Loan application.
What does an energy advisor do?
An energy advisor works with homeowners to improve a home’s comfort, energy efficiency and climate footprint. They apply specialized knowledge and tools to identify where a home loses energy and recommend the most impactful upgrades. In other words, an energy advisor helps to ensure your hard-earned money goes to the right upgrades, leading to the best financial savings!

Plan your eligible retrofits and obtain quotes from contractors.

Submit your loan application to the loan program before starting any work.

Helpful things to know about the Canada Greener Homes Loan

You must own the home that is being retrofitted and it must be your primary residence.

You should not have started the retrofits for which you are seeking a loan.

CleanBC - Better Homes Programs - various rebates on energy-saving upgrades for eligible households

CleanBC - Energy Savings Program - an extended rebate program for families that meet certain income qualification levels, and who are doing eligible upgrades such as fuel switching from natural gas, propane, or oil space heating to more climate-smart systems like an electric cold climate heat pump.
